‘Mafia III’ explores the different colors of mob justice in 1968



It looks like 2K Games and Hangar 13 want to say something with Mafia III.

The newly revealed game embraces the open world action roots of the series but props it up with a racially motivated story of mob vengeance, all set against the backdrop of New Orleans in 1968. The same year that the Vietnam War ended, NASA’s first mission to the moon launched and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

Mafia III follows Lincoln Clay, a black Vietnam vet who comes home to New Orleans after the war with no real plan or direction. Lincoln was raised an orphan and has no family to come home to, but he finds a sense of belonging and father/brother analogues when he starts running with the city’s black mob. Read more…
